West Jakarta Ensures Continuity of Arts Studios Amid the Pandemic

The West Jakarta Culture Sub-agency has its way of maintaining the continuity of art studios affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With this program, Betawi art and cultural studios can continue to exist and last a long time

West Jakarta Culture Sub-agency Head Ahmad Syaropi had prepared various programs thus members of fostered art studios in West Jakarta could survive.

In addition to holding various performances, the member of art studios would be facilitated to participate in multiple arts training programs, such as music, dance, visual art, and craft.

Cultural Arts Training in Public Spaces Finally Reopened

"With this program, Betawi art and cultural studios can continue to exist and last a long time," he asserted, Monday (6/13).

So far, only 106 of 176 art studios in West Jakarta that were monitored were still active.

"Only 106 studios are still active. The remaining 70 studios are no longer active," he mentioned.

Apart from being affected by pandemics, he assessed, many art studios became inactive because there was no next generation.

"Nowadays, many young people are reluctant to study arts and culture," he added.

According to him, the art studios were supported by Bylaw (Perda) No. 4/2015 on Betawi Culture Preservation, Governor's Regulation (Pergub) No. 229/2016 on Implementation of Betawi Culture Preservation, and Pergub No. 11/2017 on Betawi Cultural Icons.

"We want art studios in West Jakarta can be preserved from time to time," he said.
